‘Uncivil Wars: Moving with Brecht and Eisler’. Undergraduate senior seminar.
Center for Creative Research, Department of Collaborative Studies, University of Minnesota; Walker Arts Center McGuire Theatre; Barbara Barker Center for Dance; Minneapolis, Minnesota USA

• Gülgün Kayim and David Gordon, Instructors.
  Students studied the history, theories and practical techniques of Bertolt Brecht while also rehearsing for UnCivil Wars, a performance developed for Walker Art Center based on Brecht’s the Roundheads and Pointed Heads by choreographer David Gordon and Pick Up Performance Company. Students developed their own short performances responding to the research material. Final performances at Walker Arts Center (curated by Philip Bither) and student work presented for critique at the Barbara Barker Center for Dance.

  As part of the project, In Other Words: Ensemble Two, open discussion forums were hosted to allow people from diverse communities, including law, health, the arts and social justice organisations, to reflect upon the work in a public, but intimate setting.

‘International Symposium on Site Specific Theater: Space, Theatrical Intervention, & Innovation’

  To open up a field of discussion on the emerging form of experimenting with ‘site specific theatre’, this symposium continued the initial dialogue hosted at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center on the topic of site-specificity in the performing arts in 2006. Symposium speakers included: Paul Chen, Melanie Joseph, Foundary Theatre, Mary Ellen Strom, John Malpede, LADP theatre, Aaron Landsman, Martha Bowers, Chris McElroen, Classic Theater of Harlem,  Neil Murray, National Theatre of Scotland, Johanna Hannien, ANTI Festival, Finland (partial listing).
