Reconstituting the Landscape: A Tamarack Rooftop Restoration

May 2012 - November 2013
Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis, MN USA

• Christine Baeumler received a McKnight Visual Arts Fellowship to recreate a fragile self-sustaining tamarack bog ecosystem atop the rooftop entrance to MCAD. This 16x24 green roof is a result of the artist's collaboaration with ecologists Kurt Leuthold and Fred Rozumalski and the environmental company Boreal Natives. The team grew and transplanted salvaged bog plants and soils -- conifers, mosses and grasses -- which is now sustained by rainwater and recycled water returned by a solar-powered pump.

Antony Lyons …

… has received an Art/Science commission in the Biosphere Reserve of North Devon, England. He will collaborate on the project with sound artist, Jon Pigott.

Pollinator Playground and Community Garden

• Christine Baeumler, in collaboration with poet Juliet Patterson and artist Seitu Jones, will design a playground, community garden and orchard. The project is part of the Plains Art Museum's ‘Defiant Gardens’ Series.

Lough Gur Deep Mapping

2008 - ongoing
Lough Gur, County Limerick IRELAND

• An investigation of the situation of a particular farm at the Lough Gur lake by Antony Lyons that combines the personal, archival and environmental. The project grew out of a professional involvement with this site as part of the Deiseal collaboration (see Creative Community Projects 2008, 'Lough Gur Nexus').

Sediment: Exploring the Layers of Victoria Park

• Mike Pearson, in collaboration with composer John Hardy, created a series of three-hour web-based original audio-works – combining spoken word, music and effects – inspired by and set in the agricultural landscapes of North Lincolnshire, UK; created with an award from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) ‘Landscape and Environment’ programme.
