‘Creative collaboration: Terror Town’. Undergraduate seminar.

A site-specific performance installation developed for Norris Hall, UMN. Based on Thornton Wilder’s Our Town’ and on-line data on the town of Playas, New Mexico, a terror training facility for military troops and first responders located in a civilian town with 100 current residents performing as role players. Students developed a multi-media performance based on research material and play text presented on site for four days.

Student interaction and lectures with guests from the Space&Place Research Collaborative’s ‘Architectures of Emptiness’ Symposium, including: Minneapolis-based Dakota multi-media artist and educator Mona Smith; site-specific theatre director of Skewed Visions and independent artist, Gülgün Kayim; Bristol-based artist-scholar Angela Piccinni, director of the ‘Performativity of Emptiness’ AHRC network; and Mattias Einhoff and Dan Seiple, multimedia artists and founders of Skulpturen Park_Berlin and KUNSTrePUBLIK e.V. Berlin. Workshop on site-specific performance and collaborative final student projects with Gülgün Kayim were performed at the Space&Place “Architectures of Emptiness Symposium”.
