"Mapping Spectral Traces"; host institution: Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, with multiple venues including: Christiansburg Institute, Yellow Sulphur Springs, Hotel Dumas Cultural Center and Roanoke excursions. Organized by Karen E. Till, director of the Space&Place Research Collaborative (now at National University of Ireland Maynooth). This five-day event included a keynote lecture by Iain Biggs, paper and poster sessions, workshops, five local excursions, two group exhibitions, an edited volume/exhibition catalogue, three related undergraduate and graduate seminars (see below), graduate seminar visits by visiting artists-scholars (for: ‘Walter Benjamin Today’; ‘Landscape Theory’; ‘Art, Culture, and Civil Society’), and associated community and educational outreach projects in Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Roanoke, Virginia (http://www.sova.vt.edu/news-events/view/mapping-spectral-traces-symposium-guide-2010).
