The second is the artist’s garden in Minnesota. The frescoes were found in a subterranean room in a villa belonging to Livia, the wife of Emperor Augustus. The frescoes create the illusion of being surrounded by a garden. Joyce Lyon’s paintings in response to Livia’s Garden are meditations on the skill of the anonymous Roman painters who created the frescoes and homage to the changes wrought by time. Juxtaposed to these works are paintings of her contemporary garden focusing on the fugitive quality of light and the tension between human desire and nature’s independence. 6th September, 2014The Big Park Draw Julian Gregg, Charlotte Murray and David Smith invite members of the community to the third, and final, event of 2014, where they can draw and sketch in the inspiring surroundings of Victoria Park.
